Bridge7, a newly launched production company, has secured the film sequel and TV adaptation rights to Slumdog Millionaire, the Academy Award-winning Best Picture.
The Los Angeles-based banner is led by producer Swati Shetty and veteran CAA agent Grant Kessman. The rights were acquired from U.K.-based Celador, the production company behind the 2008 global box office sensation, which was co-financed by Film4 in the U.K.
Directed by Danny Boyle, Slumdog Millionaire starred Dev Patel in his breakout role alongside Freida Pinto. The film followed the journey of Jamal (Patel) and his older brother Salim, two boys from Mumbai’s slums, and their connection with Latika (Pinto), a young girl who becomes integral to their story. The movie swept eight Oscars, including Best Director and Best Picture.
Swati Shetty brings a wealth of experience to Bridge7, with a 25-year career spanning Netflix, Imagine Entertainment, and Disney. Her producing credits include the Netflix romantic comedy Wedding Season and Umrika, which won the Audience Award at Sundance in 2015.
