Kate Winslet recently opened up about the body shaming she faced after starring in Titanic and shared an emotional account of confronting those who criticized her. In an interview with 60 Minutes, Winslet reflected on the harsh scrutiny she endured about her weight following the success of the James Cameron classic.
“It was absolutely appalling,” she said, tearing up after watching a clip of someone mocking her dress size. “What kind of person does that to a young actress who’s just trying to find her way?”
Winslet revealed she had the chance to confront some of her critics face-to-face. “I let them have it,” she recounted. “I said, ‘I hope this haunts you.’ It was a powerful moment—not just for me, but for everyone who has experienced that kind of harassment. It was horrific, truly.”
In a separate conversation with Harper’s Bazaar UK, Winslet discussed a recent incident on the set of her new film, where a crew member suggested she adjust her posture to conceal “belly rolls.” She refused. “There’s a scene where Lee’s sitting on a bench in a bikini, and between takes, someone said, ‘You might want to sit up straighter.’ To hide my belly rolls? Absolutely not. That was deliberate. I’m proud of my body.”
Winslet emphasized her acceptance of herself, saying, “This is my life, etched on my face—and that’s meaningful. It would never occur to me to hide that.”
